BECKER, Minn. – Kieley Hanson kept her grip on the lead through 36 holes of the Minnesota State Junior Girls' Championship, weathering a second round delayed two hours to take a two-stroke advantage into Wednesday's final round at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
Hanson, a member of Team Minnesota, followed her opening 1-under 71 with a 76 on a long, interrupted day, settling at 3-over 147. It was enough to stay in front of a tightly bunched chase, even as the field behind her reshuffled over the championship's middle round.
Three players sit two back at 5-over 149. Abigail Olhoff (75-74) and Selena Wu (73-76) of YOC Minnesota were joined there by Abigail Labrador of Cedar Creek Golf Club, who turned in the round of the day among the leaders — an even-par 72 — to vault into a share of second. Gwen Latunski of YOC Minnesota followed at 6-over 150, with Alyssa Raghuveer of The Club at Golden Valley alone in sixth at 7-over 151.
Ruby Reding of Hazeltine National and Taylor Thor of USGA/Minnesota GC shared seventh at 8-over 152, fronting a leaderboard that tightened considerably behind Hanson once the delay scrambled rhythms up and down the course.
With the field trimmed to the low 24 and ties after the second round, the cut came at 20-over 164 — a number that swept 28 players into the final round. Among those advancing right at the line were Tatum Gatheridge of Detroit Country Club, Clara Heinen of Interlachen Country Club and YOC Minnesota's Payton Anderson, while a long list of competitors saw their week end at the midway point.
Now comes the part that matters most. Hanson carries the outright lead into Wednesday's final round at Pebble Creek, but with three players within two shots and the scoring bunched tightly behind, the title remains well within reach for the chasers. After two days that tested patience as much as ball-striking, the Minnesota State Junior Girls' Championship will come down to the final 18 holes.
