EDINA, Minn. – The First Stage of 2025 PGA Tour Qualifying School concluded Friday at 14 sites across the country, with six local players advancing to the second round.
Among the first to earn a spot at Second Stage was 2025 Minnesota State Open champion Tyler Leach, who carded a final-round 65 to earn medalist honors Oct. 10 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in Arizona to earn medalist honors at the event.
The Spring Valley, Wis., native earned one of 21 qualifying spots, along with former University of Minnesota golfer Ben Warian, who fired a 17-under 271 to place tied for fourth to advance.
Leach, who played collegiately at Marquette University, opened and closed the championship at Rochester Golf and Country Club in July with a 4-under 66, edging Gopher Jack Wetzel by two strokes to claim his first victory as a professional.
Another former Gopher, Bennett Swavely, posted a 4-under 68 during the fourth and final round Oct. 17 at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club qualifier in Rockwall, Texas.
Swavely, of Hudson, Wis., opened with a 7-under 65 on his way to a 14-th place finish to earn one of 19 qualifying spots.
Former Minnetonka High School standout Ben Sigel led a contingent of Minnesotans at the Lincoln, Neb., qualifier Oct. 17, shooting 11-under 274 to finish tied for 10th.
Fellow Skipper golfer, Gunnar Broin also earned a spot at Second Stage after closing with rounds of 66 and 69, respectively, to finish in a share of 14th place at 10-under 274.
Getting a boost from his 8-under 64 during the third round at the Country Club of Ocala Thursday, former St. Thomas Academy golfer Muzzy Donohue finished in a share of ninth place at 10-under 278 to claim one of 21 available spots in Ocala, Fla., Friday.
The Second Stage of qualifying will begin Dec. 2 at five sites before the final 72 holes are played at TPC Sawgrass starting Dec. 11 in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
