SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – Andy Jacobson and Justin Burleson each carded rounds of 2-under par 70 Saturday to take a one-shot lead over the field at the 2015 Minnesota Public Golf Association State Public Links Championship at Greystone Golf Club.
Mason Fiddle and Sammy Schmitz will begin the final round Sunday just one shot off the lead as both shot 1-under par 71, while Daryl Schomer finished the opening round in fifth place, shooting even par 70.
Jacobson, Eagle Creek Golf Club, rolled in a single birdie on the opening nine Saturday to turn at 1-under before sinking a pair of birdies at the 15th and 16th hole to get to 3-under for the round.
A bogey at the par-3 17th moved Jacobson to 2-under after the first round and into a tie for the lead.
Burleson, Valleywood Golf Course, got off to a slow start during the opening round Saturday with bogeys at the fourth and seventh holes before rolling in his birdie look at the par-4 ninth hole to make the turn at 1-over.
Finding a rhythm on the final nine holes Saturday, Burleson carded three birdies during a stretch of six holes and would jump into a share of the lead as he finished with a 70.
The final round of the 2015 MPGA State Public Links Championship is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. at Greystone Golf Club.
