NEW PRAGUE, Minn. – The month of June has been one Sarah Burnham probably won’t forget anytime soon. It started with a state team championship for Wayzata in Class AAA and continued Sunday with a victory in the Minnesota Women’s Public Golf Association Match Play Championship.
Tuesday, Burnham and her partner, Lexi Bollant, fired a 3-under par 69 to finish tied for first at the 35th Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Four-Ball Championship at New Prague Country Club.
Burnham, Rush Creek Golf Club, and Bollant, Windsong Farm, finished tied after regulation with sisters Steffi and McKenzie Neisen, both of New Prague Golf Club, at 6-under par 144 before Burnham and Bollant won the championship in a three-hole playoff.
The Neisens carded a 5-under par 67 to take the early lead Monday, but shot a 1-under par 71 to finish tied for first at 138.
The team of Leigh Klasse, Meadowbrook Golf Club, and Betsy Aldrich, Woodhill Country Club, finished third at 2-under par 142 after carding a 2-under par 70 during the final round Tuesday. Three teams finished tied for fourth at 143.
Madi Roe, Chaska Town Course, and Abby Conzemius, Bunker Hills Golf Club, finished on top of the First Flight at 149 after shooting a final round 5-over par 77.
Mary Hossier and Clare Pobanz, both of Keller Golf Club, finished in second place at 150 after carding back-to-back rounds of 75.
Kathy Hubert-Wyss, Forest Hills Golf Club, and Barbara Patrow, Bunker Hills Golf Club, finished in third place at 151, two shots behind the winners.
In the Second Flight, the team of Mary Vaske and Nancy Gangelhoff, both of Chaska Town Course, shot a final round 14-over par 86 to win the flight, one stroke better than the team of Sue Olafson, Braemar Golf Course, and Monica Ladouceur, who finished second at 170.
The pair of Kathleen Fisher and Dale Smith, both from Deer Run Golf Club, finished third at 171 after carding a final round 12-over par 84.
