ANDOVER, Kan. – Holding a 2-up lead through 10 holes Wednesday, Minnesotan Frankie Capan watched his lead evaporate against Cole Hammer during the Round of 32 at the U.S. Junior Amateur as Hammer surged to victory, 2 and 1, to eliminate Capan from the tournament at Flint Hills National Golf Club.

Capan, North Oaks, Minn., took an early 2-up lead with a pair of birdies at the second and third holes before Hammer came back to win the fourth and fifth to even the match.

Capitalizing of a pair of Hammer bogeys, Capan regained a 2-up lead after the 10th, but Hammer fought his way into the lead, winning four of the next five holes to take a 2-up lead of his own after the 15th.

Both players carded pars at the 16th and 17th and Hammer clinched the match, 2 and 1, to advance to the Round of 16.
