Capan III and Jones Advance to Match Play at U.S. Junior Amateur

WOODLANDS, Texas – Frankie Capan III and Peter Jones both fired rounds of 1-over par 73 Tuesday during the second round of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at the Club at Carlton Woods.

The tournament consists of two rounds of stroke play with the top 64 players advancing to match play beginning Wednesday, with the final match scheduled for Saturday.

Both Capan, North Oaks, Minn., and Jones, Owatonna, Minn., finished in a tie for 37th at 3-over par 147 to qualify for the match play portion of the championship.

Capan, seeded No. 48 in match play, will face Nathan Jeansonne, Keithville, La., Wednesday during the Round of 64, while Jones, seeded No. 45, will face Eric Bae, Cary, N.C., during the opening round of match play.

Samuel Foust, Edina, Minn., failed to qualify for match play Tuesday after carding a 2-over par 74 during the opening round and shot a 7-over par 79 during the final round to finish at 153.

Zimbabwe’s Sean Crocker and England’s Sam Horsfield shared medalist honors at 7-under par 137.

The Round of 64 is scheduled to begin Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. at the Club at Carlton Woods in Woodlands, Texas.
