Carothers Shoots 70 Earning Medalist Honors at MGA Qualifier

ANNANDALE, Minn., -- Dave Carothers carded a 2-under par 70 to earn medalist honors in the Players Division Wednesday at the 2013 Minnesota Golf Association's Players Championship Qualifier at Southbrook Golf Club.

Carothers, Wild Marsh Golf Club, will be joined by Robert Stocker, St. Cloud Country Club, who shot a 1-under par 71 and by Charlie Braniff, St. Cloud Country Club, who finished at even-par 72. Eric Kolkind, Wild Marsh Golf Club, grabbed the final qualifying spot by shooting 1-over par 73. James Lehman, Windsong Farm, and Andrew Brandt, Medina Golf and Country Club, finished as first and second alternates respectively.

The qualifier was held to determine the field at the MGA's three annual match-play tournaments in June. The MGA Players Championships will be played June 24-26 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn., and the MGA Senior Players Championships and the MGA Mid-Players Championships will be held cocurrently at Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn. June 18-20.

In the Mid-Players Division, Carothers and Kolkind finished as the two qualifiers with Tim Evon, Meadowbrook Golf Club, and Darren Gourley, Wild Marsh Golf Club, finishing as first and second alternates respectively.

Steve Whittaker, Pebble Creek Golf Club, earned top honors in the Senior Division shooting a 1-over par 73 and will be joined by Lehman as the two qualifiers. Jim Hurley, St. Cloud Country Club, and Terry O'Donnell, Hastings Country Club finished as first and second alternates respectively.

The Southbrook qualifier hosted 75 players who competed for only 8 total spots.
