Cavanagh Medals Shooting Even Par at MGA Qualifier

MENAHGA, Minn. -- Bob Cavanagh carded an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors in the Players and Mid-Players Division at the 2013 Minnesota Golf Association Players Championship Qualifier at Blueberry Pines Golf Club.

The qualifier was played to determine the field at the MGA's three match-play tournaments in June. The Players Championship will be played at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn., June 24-26 and the Mid-Players and Senior Players Championships will be played cocurrently at Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn., June 18-20.

Cavanagh qualified in the Players Division along side Andrew Passanante, Moorhead Country Club, who finished at 2-over par 74. Greg Melhaus, Links at Northfork, finished as first alternate with Ryan Heide, Legends Club, finishing as second alternate.

In the Mid-Players Division, Cavanagh was the sole qualifier with Melhaus finishing as first alternate and Colin Bork, Village Green Golf Club, as the second alternate.

Clint Nelson, Detroit CC Men's 18, earned top honors in the Senior Division with Bruce McIntosh, Golden Eagle Golf Club, and Mike Antonovich, Eagle Ridge Golf Course finishing as first and second alternates respectively.

The Blueberry Pines qualifier represented the northwestern portion of the qualifiers with 21 golfers competing for four qualifying spots.
