Constable and Rask Headed to Pinehurst

Two Minnesotans and former Gophers made it through the final round of qualifying Monday, as both earned a spot in the 114th U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Donald Constable, Excelsior, Minn., carded a 3-under par 141 Monday to finish tied for second and earn one of four qualifying spots at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.

Constable finished at even par 72 during Monday’s opening round before shooting 3-under par 69 in the afternoon. He opened the round with three birdies before back-to-back bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes dropped him to 1-over.

He would finish the back nine with three birdies and a bogey to round out his day at 3-under par 141. Constable carded a 2-under par 70 at Stillwater Country Club on June 5th to earn a spot in the sectional qualifier.

Clayton Rask, Rogers, Minn., qualified for the U.S. Open Monday as well as he carded a 3-under par 69 during the opening round at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell, Ore.

In the afternoon session, Rask finished the front nine at 2-over par 38 before making birdie on two of his final three holes to finish the round even par and earn the second qualifying spot at 3-under par 141.

A field of 50 players competed for just two spots for the championship. Rask shot a 4-under par 68 on May 12th at the Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake, Minn., to qualify for the sectional tournament.

The 114th U.S. Open will be held June 12-15 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
