  LAKE ELMO, Minn. -- David Cookson qualified for the Minnesota Golf Association's Amateur Championship Tuesday by shooting a 1-under par 71 at Tartan Park Golf Club, earning medalist honors.

The qualifer was held to determine the field for the 110th MGA Amateur Championship July 15-17 at Edinburgh USA.

Cookson. Hazeltine National Golf Club, qualified along with Robert Kimlinger, Eagle Valley Golf Course, who shot an even par 72, and by 13 others.

Joe Kroening, Stillwater Country Club, Scott Klein, Eagle Valley Golf Course, and Paul Hogenson, Prestwick Golf Club, finished as first, second and third alternates, respectively.

The Tartan Park qualifier had a total field of 84 players vying for one of 15 qualifying spots available.
