NISSWA, Minn. – Entering Wednesday’s final round of the 2021 Minnesota Golf Association Net Amateur Championship with a five-point deficit, Scott Dehn tallied a pair of birdies during his final nine holes at The Preserve to claim a two-point victory over Charles Stotts.
Playing a 36-hole Stableford format this week, Dehn accumulated 30 points to open the championship at The Pines at Grand View Lodge Tuesday, five points off Stotts’ and Doug Rechtzigel’s first-round lead.
Opening the final round with a birdie on the first hole Wednesday, Dehn quickly closed the gab before taking a bogey at the third. Dehn carded back-to-back net birdies at the fifth and sixth holes that were negated by a double-bogey at the eighth.
Finishing his front nine with a birdie at the ninth, Dehn would go bogey-free over his final nine holes, sinking birdie chances at the 11th and 14th holes to finish with a final-round 39 to earn a two-point victory with a 36-hole total of 69 points.
Shawna Johnson began Wednesday’s final round with a lofty five-point lead over Cindy Kunkel and would card 21 points during her final 18 holes to claim a one-point victory over Karen Studer.
Stumbling during her front nine Wednesday, Johnson rallied by carding a net eagle and two net birdies to close out her final round on top of the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 54 points.
