Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024

CARLTON, Minn. – Grant Exstad fired a round of 76 Wednesday at Black Bear Golf and Casino to earn medalist honors and qualify for Minnesota Golf Association Players’ Championship.
The qualifier was held to determine the field at the 36th MGA Players’ Championship which will be played June 23-25 at Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, Minn. Exstad, Fiddlestix Golf Club, was one of four players attempting to qualify for one spot in the championship.
Taylor Sundbom, Enger Park Golf Course, finished as first alternate, carding a 5-over par 77.
Shane Johnson, Northland Country Club, fired a 6-over par 78 Tuesday to earn medalist honors and qualify for the MGA Mid-Players’ Championship.
The tournament will be played co-currently with the MGA Senior Players’ Championship June 17-19 at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club in Lakeville, Minn.
A field of three players were vying for one spot in the championship as Frank Mertz, Northland Country Club, finished as first alternate, shooting a 9-over par 81.
In the Senior Players’ qualifier, Kevin Treacy, Northland Country Club, finished with an 11-over par 83 to grab the lone qualifying spot as Steve Stojevich, Lester Park Golf Club, finished as first alternate after shooting a 12-over par 84.
