Fessler Leads Minnesotans at U.S. Junior Amateur in Ohio

 TOLEDO, Ohio – Firing a 1-over 72 Monday, Trey Fessler leads a contingent of local players at the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Inverness Club.
 
The tournament was suspended for nearly three hours during the opening round Monday, but following the first round of stroke play, Californian William Mouw and Australian Karl Vilips share the lead after both carded rounds of 2-under 69.
 
Fessler, who recently claimed the Minnesota Golf Association Mixed Amateur Team Championship with partner Sophia Yoemans, began his opening round on the 10^th hole made birdie at the 12^th before a string of bogeys put Fessler at 3-over par through nine holes.
 
Rolling in three birdies against one bogey during his final nine holes, Fessler’s round of 72 put him into a tie for 18^th, three shots off the lead.
 
Caleb VanArragon, from Blaine, Minn., played his front nine at 3-over before carding one birdie and one bogey over the final nine holes to finished the first round tied for 41^st at 3-over 74.
 
 Former Minnesotan Matthew Garside posted an opening-round 76 Monday and will begin his second round tied for 67^th, while soon-to-be University of Minnesota freshman Connor Glynn finished the opening day of competition with a round of 77.
 
Nathaniel Adams, from Maple Grove, Minn., posted an 8-over par 79 during the first round Monday and will begin the second round tied for 111^th.
