Five Minnesotans in Action at U.S. Amateur Championship

  BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Five Minnesotans began competition Monday at the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Country Club.

The tournament consists of 36 holes of stroke play, followed by six rounds of match play with the championship scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Sunday.

Tyler McMorrow of Minneapolis shot a 3-over par 73 after the first round and sits tied for 86th. McMorrow qualifyied for the tournament with Casey Vangsness and Jesse Bull at the St. Cloud Sectional at St. Cloud Country Club.

Bull, Minneapolis, carded a 4-over par 74 and is tied for 112th place, while Vangsness shot a 9-over par 79 and stands tied for 248th.

Beau Hanson, Frazee, Minn., qualified for the U.S. Amateur at the Fargo qualifier held at Fargo Country Club. Hanson carded an opening round 78 to finish his day tied for 224th.

Minneapolis' Andrew McCain finished his first round tied for 224th by shooting an 8-over par 78. McCain qualified for the tournament at the Blaine Sectional held at Victory Links Golf Course.

The final round of stroke play concludes Tuesday with match play beginning Wednesday.
