Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024
December 23, 2024
ANOKA, Minn. – Rolling in a pair of birdies against one bogey during his final nine holes Sunday, Rick Frieburg posted a 1-under 70 during the final round of the 68th Minnesota Public Golf Association Senior Public Links Championship to earn a five-stroke victory at Green Haven Golf Course.
Frieburg’s victory Sunday is his fifth state victory and first since claiming the Lakeland Championship at Eagle Creek Golf Club in 2012.
After posting a 2-over 73 during the opening round Saturday, Frieburg began his final round Sunday with a pair of birdies over his first four holes to draw even for the championship before two bogeys to finish his outward nine put him back to 2-over for the tournament.
Taking advantage of back-to-back birdie looks at the 13th and 14th holes, Frieburg moved to 2-under for the round before a bogey on the final hole gave him a five-stroke victory over Bob Auman, Mark Sperling and Steve Whittaker, shooting 1-over par 143
Frieburg claimed his first victory at the 2008 MPGA Combination Championship before adding titles at the 2010 MPGA Mid Public Links Championship and the 2011 MPGA Four-Ball Championship.
