Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024

MONTGOMERY, Minn., -- Scott Gustafson fired a 3-under par 69 to earn medalist honors in the Players Division Monday at the 2013 Minnesota Golf Association's Players Championship Qualifier at Montgomery National Golf Club.
The qualifier was played to determine the field at the MGA's three match-play tournaments in June. The Players Championship will be played at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn., June 24-26 and the Mid-Players and Senior Players Championships will be played cocurrently at Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn., June 18-20.
In the Players Division, Gustafson, Hazeltine National Golf Club, also qualified with Jordan Hawkinson, Chisago Lakes Golf Course, and David Rehfeldt, StoneRidge Golf Club, who each shot 1-under par 71. Josh Blackman, Mankato Golf Club, and Scott Bodelson, Meadows at Mystic Lake, also qualified as both carded even-par 72. Grabbing the final two qualifying spots were Geoff Klein, LeSueur Country Club, and Philip Mahal, Baker National Golf Course, both finished at 1-over par 73. Jeff Ferron, Valleywood Golf Course, and Shane Sienko, Mendakota Country Club, finished as first and second alternates respectively.
In the Mid-Players Division, Blackman's even-par 72 was good enough to earn medalist honors while Ferron, Klein and Mahal all qualified at 1-over par 73. Mark Sperling, Wilds Golf Club, was the fifth and final qualifier in the Mid-Players Division shooting a 2-over par 74. Steven Pribyl, Montgomery National Golf Club, and Tyler Fitzel, Keller Golf Club finished as first and second alternates respectively.
Rick Ehrmanntraut, Southview Country Club, was the sole qualifier in the Senior Division as he carded a 1-under par 71. Gary Thalhuber, Midland Hills Country Club, and Don Howe, Olympic Hills Golf Club finished as first and second alternates respectively.
The Montgomery National Qualifier hosted 75 players competing for only 13 qualifying spots.
