NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Olivia Herrick’s run at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship has come to an end as the two-time Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Player of the Year was eliminated during the Round of 32 Tuesday at Harbour Trees Golf Club.
After downing Amy Loughney, Hoboken, N.J., 1-up, during the Round of 64 Monday, Herrick faced Midori Ishii, Torrance, Calif., during Tuesday’s Round of 32 and got out to a quick 1-up lead after the opening hole as Ishii made bogey.
Herrick, Roseville, Minn., couldn’t roll in par on the second hole and Ishii evened the match with a par. After Herrick made three consecutive bogeys, Ishii took a 2-up lead through six and would hang on to it for the remainder of the match.
Ishii’s lead fell to just one after making bogey at the seventh while Herrick made par, but the two would remain deadlocked over the next five holes.
Ishii improved her lead to 2-up at the 13th after a bogey by Herrick, but Herrick would win the following hole with a bogey as Ishii made a double, and Herrick kept the deficit to one.
Following a bogey on the 15th by Herrick, Ishii would take firm control of the match with another 2-up lead and would clinch the match on the 16th by rolling in a birdie to win, 3 and 2.
