GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- The opening round of the 2013 Minnesota Women's Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship at Pokegama Golf Course continued Tuesday as inclement weather forced a stoppage Monday.
After the opening round, Leigh Klasse, Keller Golf Club, holds a three-stroke lead as she posted a 2-under par 69. Klasse looks for her fourth victory at the event as she has won the championship the past three years.
Claudia Pilot, a two-time winner who last won in 2009, sits alone in second place after the opening round as she carded a 1-over par 72. Brenda Williams, Windsong Farm, sits in third place after shooting a 5-over par 76, seven shots off the lead.
In the First Flight, Barbara Patrow, Prestwick Golf Club, finished at 7-over par 78 and holds a slim one-stroke lead over Jan Maki, Pokegama Golf Course, and Kathy Hubert-Wyss, Forest Hills Golf Club, both of whom shot an 8-over par 79.
Melanie Jaeb, University Golf Course, shot an opening round 85 to lead the Second Flight and also carries a one-stroke lead into the final round over Krystal Lawson, Forest Hills Golf Club, and Debbie Moehring, Deer Run Golf Club, both of whom shot a 15-over par 86.
Sue Olafson of Braemar Golf Course leads the Third Flight after shooting an 87 during the first round. Olafson holds a one-stroke lead over Janet Hanson, Stillwater Country Club, and Carol Dennis, Baker National Golf Course, who finished at 88 and 89, respectively.
