Kline and Tylke Take Early Lead at U.S. APL Qualifier in Grand Rapids

  GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- The 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifier began Saturday at Pokegama Golf Course with Alex Kline and Max Tylke both carding a 2-under par 69 to lead the field after the opening round. 

Kline, Links at Northfork, almost eagled with his approach on the final hole, but birdied the 18th to finish at 69. Kline currently plays for the University of South Dakota as he qualified for the State Amateur last week at the Links at Northfork.

Tylke, Valleywood Golf Course, also finished with a 69 as he got off to a hot start with four birdies in a row on the front nine to shoot 32. Tylke has played for St. John's University for the past two seasons.

Shooting a 1-under and a favorite to win the tournament is Matt Schneider of Sugarbrooke Golf Course. Schneider qualified for the U.S. APL last year at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah.
