Larson Earns Spot in MGA Players' Championship with 69 at Interlaken

FAIRMONT, Minn. – Johnny Larson earned Medalist honors Wednesday and qualified for the Minnesota Golf Association Players’ Championship by shooting a 3-under par 69 at Interlaken Golf Club.

The qualifier was held to determine the field for the 38th MGA Players’ Championship which will be played June 23-25 at Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, Minn.

Larson, Dacotah Ridge Golf Club, earned one of two qualifying positions for the championship out of a field of 12 players.

Andy Peterson, Green Lea Golf Club, grabbed the second and final spot after carding a 1-under par 71 Wednesday.

Paul Martin, Creeksbend Golf Course, earned the lone qualifying position for the MGA Mid-Players’ Championship Wednesday after carding a 2-under par 70.

The MGA Mid-Players’ and the MGA Senior Players’ Championships will be played co-currently June 17-19 at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club in Lakeville, Minn.

Just three players competed for one spot as Peterson, Green Lea Golf Club, and Michael Lynch, Highland National Golf Club, finished as first and second alternates, respectively.

A field of five players played for one spot in the MGA Senior Players’ Championship Wednesday, and Mark Veglahn, Marshall Golf Club, earned medalist honors by shooting an 8-over par 80. George Cliff, Mankato Golf Club, finished as first alternate.
