Leaf Earns Spot at MGA Amateur With 71 in Austin, Six Others Advance

  AUSTIN, Minn. – Carding a 1-under par 71 Monday at Austin Country Club, William Leaf earned medalist honors as well as a spot in the 112th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship.

The qualifying field was comprised of 37 players competing for seven spots to this year’s tournament, which will be held July 20-22 at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minn.

Leaf, the Bridges, will be joined at this year’s tournament by Chandler Fritcher, Hadley Creek Golf Club, and Peter Jones, Owatonna Golf Club, who both fired rounds of even par 72 to qualify.

Eric Deutsch, Rochester Golf and Country Club, shot a 1-over par 73 to qualify Monday, while Kennedy Cheruiyot, Northern Hills Golf Club, and Matt Erredge, Cannon Golf Club, each earned spots shooting 2-over par 74.

Andy Peterson, Green Lea Golf Club, claimed the final qualifying spot as he carded a 3-over par 75.

Doug Wright, Boulder Pointe Golf Club, Alex Syverson, Wedgewood Cove Golf Club, and Ben Meyer, Austin Country Club, finished as first, second and third alternates, respectively.
