ROGERS, Minn. – With a 4-under par 67 Friday at Pheasant Acres Golf Club, William Leaf earned medalist honors as well as a spot in the 2015 Minnesota State Open.
A field of 40 players competed for nine qualifying spots to this year’s championship, which will be held July 24-26 at Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minn.
Leaf, the Bridges Golf Club, will be joined by Luke Johanson, Chaska Town Course, who fired a 2-under par 69 Friday to earn a spot.
John Svac (Riverwood National Golf Course), Robert Stocker (St. Cloud Country Club), Yarri Bryn (Theodore Wirth Golf Club), Brian Russell (the Bridges Golf Club), Michael Seiffert (Fox Hollow Golf Club) and Robert Kelly (Chaska Town Course) each grabbed a qualifying spot as all six players finished with a 1-under par 70.
Claiming the final spot at the qualifier Friday was Jim Foss, Oakcrest Golf Club, who fired a 1-over par 72.
Dayton Federley, Riverwood National Golf Course, and Max Mason, Spring Hill Golf Club, finished as first and second alternates, respectively.
