Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024
December 23, 2024
HUTCHINSON, Minn. – Despite a bogey on the opening hole Sunday, the twosome of Taylor Ledwein and Megan Welch carded nine birdies over the next 17 holes to post an 8-under par 64 to take the early lead at the 2018 Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
Riding momentum from her victory at the Women’s State Amateur July 25th, Ledwein birdied four holes on the front nine Sunday, while Welch added one of her own at the third as the two would turn at 4-under.
The pair both birdied holes 10, 12 and 14 and Ledwein rolled in her birdie look at the par-4 11th to put the twosome one stroke ahead of the team of Natalie Roth and Olivia Herrick.
While Ledwein, Welch and Roth are each looking for their first state four-ball win, Leigh Klasse has 10 four-ball victories to her credit and Herrick isn’t far behind with nine of her own.
Posting a bogey-free opening round Sunday, Herrick and Roth got off to a quick start by carding four birdies over their opening nine and would add three more birdies over the final nine holes to finish the first day of competition one shot back.
Klasse and partner Betsy Aldrich posted an opening-round 69 Sunday and will begin Monday’s final round in third place, five shots off the lead.
The final round of the 2018 MGA Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship gets underway at 8 a.m. Monday at Crow River Golf Club.
