BANDON, Ore. – Despite carding three consecutive pars in a seven-way playoff for four spots, the duo of Trent Peterson and Troy Johnson were eliminated from competition following two rounds of stroke play Sunday at the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Peterson, of St. Paul, Minn., and Johnson, from Maple Grove, Minn., combined for a 1-under par 69 to open the championship with at the Old Macdonald Course before the twosome rolled in three birdies with one bogey at the Pacific Dunes course Sunday to finish stroke play in a seven-way tie for 29th at 135.
Michael Christensen and former Duke University teammate Brad Clark posted a 69 during the opening round Saturday and followed it with a round of 68 at the Old Macdonald Course on Sunday to card a 4-under 137 to miss the cut by two strokes.
University of Minnesota associate head coach Justin Smith and former Gopher David Morgan carded 68 to begin the championship and would fire a round of 70 during the final round of stroke play Sunday to finish at 3-under 138, missing the cut for match play by three shots.
Tony Vincelli, from Rosemount, Minn., and partner Scott Thomas combined for a round of 75 Saturday and bounced back with a round of 72 Sunday, missing the cut for match play by 12 strokes.
