Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024
December 23, 2024
ROSEVILLE -- Kara Salava posted a 76 on Wednesday to earn medalist honors in the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Qualifying at Midland Hills Country Club.
Three spots were available for this year's Women's Mid-Am, which will be played at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, beginning Oct. 6.
The other two spots went to Brenda Williams and six-time Minnesota Women's State Mid-Am champ Leigh Klasse. They tied for second place with 77's.
Claudia Pilot, who has been to the Mid-Am nine times, and reached the quarterfinals in 2001, missed by a stroke with a 78. She is the first alternate.
Klasse will be making her 10th appearance in the Mid-Am. Her best showing there, so far, was making it to the Round of 16 in 2009. This is the 44th time that she has earned a place in a USGA event, which is a record -- by a mile -- for a Minnesota golfer.
Last week, Klasse and Pilot were co-medalists in the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur, which will be played at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. (Sept. 8-13). It was the third time in as many tries that Klasse has made the Senior Am. Pilot is 6 for 6, having gone all the way to the semifinals at the 2008 tournament.
