Extended Season Boosts Golf Rounds in Minnesota in 2024

MINNEAPOLIS -- Sam Matthew of Midland Hills Country Club shot a 1-over par 72 to earn medallist honors in the Players Division at the 2013 Minnesota Golf Association Players Championship Qualifying Tuesday at Gross National Golf Club.
Hudson Carpenter, Stillwater Country Club shot a 2-over par 73 to qualify as well as Nick Auman, Links at Northfork, and Kyle Scanlon, Dellwood Hills Golf Club, who each shot 3-over par 74. Genki Hirayama, U of M Les Bolstad Golf Course, was the final qualifier carding a 4-over par 75. Ted Owen, Edina Country Club, and Yarri Bryn, Worth Golf Club, finished as first and second alternates respectively.
The qualifier was held to determine the field at the MGA's three annual match-play tournaments in June. The MGA Players Championships will be played June 24-26 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn., the MGA Senior Players Championships and the MGA Mid-Players Championships will be held cocurrently at Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn. June 18-20.
In the Mid-Players Division, Brent Grossman, Chaska Town Course, shot a 4-over par 75 to finish as the top qualifier. Matt Witham, Keller Golf Club, and Gary Lawson, Tanners Brook Golf Club earned the final two qualifying spots as Joe Harstad, Shamrock Golf Club, and Troy Johnson, Rush Creek Golf Club finished as the first and second alternates respectively.
Paul Korman, Columbia National Golf Club, shot a 4-over par 75 to finish on top of the Senior Division. Also qualifying were Tom Nordstrom, Eagle Valley Golf Course; Tom Ryan, Hazeltine National Golf Club; and David Whittaker, Northland Country Club all of whom shot 5-over par 76. Dennis Alm, Keller Golf Club; Kip Colwell, Minikahda Club; and Patrick Vincelli, Bracketts Crossing, rounded out the final three qualifying spots. Michael Dolan, Highland National Golf Club finished as the first alternate and Gregory Blackwood, Edinburgh USA, finished as second alternate.
Gross National Golf Club was the largest of all qualifying sites with 86 players playing for 15 spots available.
