Schmitz Earns Medalist Honors and Qualifies for MGA Players

MINNEAPOLIS – Michael Schmitz carded an even par 35 Tuesday to earn medalist honors at the 2014 MGA Players’ Qualifying at Columbia Golf Club.

The qualifier was held to determine the field at the 36th MGA Players’ Championship, which will be played June 23-25 at Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, Minn.

A field of 23 players competed for four qualifying spots as the qualifier was shortened to just nine holes Tuesday.

Schmitz, Oak Marsh Golf Club, qualified along with Tim Kelley, Minneapolis Golf Club, and Andrew Longbella, Edinburgh USA, who both carded a 2-over par 37 to earn a spot in the championship.

Travis Mauer, Oak Marsh Golf Club, grabbed the final qualifying spot by also shooting a 2-over par 37.

Brandon Jones, Edinburgh USA, and Keith Danielson Jr., Windsong Farm, finished as first and second alternates, respectively.
