Three Minnesotans Qualify for U.S. Junior Amateur at Baker National Sectional

MEDINA, Minn. – Frankie Capan fired a 1-under par 143 Wednesday at Baker National Golf Club to earn medalist honors and qualify for the 2014 U.S. Junior Championship, along with two other Minnesotans.

The qualifier was held to determine the field for the 67th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, which will be held July 21-26 at the Club at Carlton in Woodlands, Texas.

The Medina, Minn., qualifier had a field that consisted of 66 players competing for three qualifying spots Capan, North Oaks, Minn., fired a 1-under par 143 to earn medalist honors, firing a 2-over par 74 during the morning session Wednesday before shooting a 3-under par 69 in the afternoon.

Peter Jones, Owatonna, Minn., grabbed the second qualifying position as he finished second at 146 after shooting a 3-under par 69 and following it with a 5-over par 77.

Sam Foust, Edina, Minn., finished in a tie for third at 151 along with Max Redetzke, Lakeville, Minn., and Tyler Strafaci, Davie, Fla.

After carding a 2-over par 74 in the early round, Foust shot a 5-over par 77 in the afternoon and would earn the final spot during a playoff with Redetzke and Strafaci.

Redetzke finished as first alternate, while Strafaci finished as second alternate.
