MGA To Present 2004 Fritz Corrigan Evans Scholar of the Year

EDINA, Minn. (October 22, 2004) The Minnesota Golf Association will name the 2004 MGA Fritz Corrigan Evans Scholar of the Year at the 104th Annual Meeting October 30 at Rush Creek Golf Club, Maple Grove.

The MGA Fritz Corrigan Evans Scholar of the Year Award was established in 1993 to annually recognize a Minnesota Evans Scholar who excels in academics, leadership and community service. In 1996, the award was renamed the Fritz Corrigan Award in honor of the late MGA director and "founding father" of the Evans Scholars Chapter at the University of Minnesota.

            Mr. Corrigan was an active leader on the MGA Board of Directors and was awarded the MGA Warren J. Rebholz Distinguished Service Award in 1998. Mr. Corrigan was a director of the Western Golf Association from 1957-71, serving as a vice president from 1961-65 and as a trustee of the Evans Scholars Foundation from 1966-71. He also served as a committee member of the United States Golf Association. Mr. Corrigan was a long-time member and president of the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, where he caddied as a young man, and was a member and president of Northland Country Club in Duluth.

This year's finalists include:

JEFF EBERLEIN is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in math with an emphasis in actuarial science. He has a 3.73 grade point average and has received the Carleton Blunt Academic Achievement Award and the Evans Scholars National Committee Academic Achievement Award. Jeff is Administrative Vice President of the Minnesota Chapter and previously served as Alumni Relations Chair. He was an intern with Allianz Life Insurance last summer and plans to pursue a career as an actuary. Jeff caddied at Greenhaven in Anoka and has also worked at the Minikahda Club.

PAUL LOTITO is a senior in the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, majoring in finance and accounting with a minor in economics. He received the Evans Scholars National Committee Academic Achievement Award. Paul is president of the Minnesota Chapter and previously served as Treasurer. He has been an intern with Smith Barney and 3M and plans to pursue a career in investment banking. Paul caddied at Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, Wisconsin.

NICOLE JOHNSON is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in kinesiology. She has a 3.70 grade point average and received the Evans Scholars National Committee Academic Achievement Award, Carleton Blunt Academic Achievement Award, and the Adelor J. Petit Jr. New Scholar Award. Nicole is the New Scholar Educator of the Minnesota Chapter and also served as Philanthropy Chair, organizing the Evans Scholars Blood Drive. She caddied at Northland Country Club in Duluth.
