Spanning five decades, Harris has devoted his time and talent in the service of amateur golf in Minnesota. Since his election to the MGA Board of Directors in 1962, Harris has served in numerous leadership roles including chair of the Tournament and Rules committee, where under his direction, the MGA Players’ Championship was conceived and implemented (In 1961, Harris was also instrumental in introducing the four-ball to the annual rotation of MGA amateur championships). Over a three-year period, Harris was the general chair of the MGA Centennial committee, where he led the organization in the celebration of the MGA’s 100th anniversary in 2001. Harris is a past president of the MGA (1985-86), and was an advocate encouraging the participation and inclusion of all clubs and golfers in the MGA. He served as the original chair of the Rebholz Distinguished Service Award Selection committee, retiring after nine years in 2003. Harris continues to make time as a volunteer rules official at several MGA championships each season.
