MGA/USGA P.J. Boatwright Men's Championships Internship
About the MGA:
Founded in 1901, the Minnesota Golf Association is the governing body over amateur golf in the state, responsible for administering the Rules of Golf, and committed to uphold and promote the game of golf and its values for all golfers in Minnesota. The MGA conducts 23 major amateur championships and 16 USGA qualifying events each year. Thanks to the support of its member clubs and associate members, and the efforts of its volunteers and staff, the MGA provides a variety of services such as handicapping, course rating and measuring, an online golf news and information resource, mngolf.org, and an official publication, Minnesota Golfer magazine, which benefits all golfers throughout Minnesota.
Position Summary:
Rules and Competition Internship available through the USGA’s P.J. Boatwright Internship Program. A comprehensive introduction and extensive training experience for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration and tournament operations. This position does not have a fixed work location; rather, it will require travel to different work sites.
Requirements:
- Amateur (non-professional) golfer
- Golf experience/knowledge required
- Competitive golf experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to learn job-related computer programs
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 programs
- Excellent communication skills including email, text and telephone communications
- Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team
- Good typing, filing and penmanship skills
- Ability and willingness to travel including overnight and some weekends
- Access to reliable transportation for traveling to tournaments weekly
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
General Duties:
- Assist with on-site operations for all Men's MGA Championships, Qualifiers & USGA Qualifiers
- Assist in the administration of the MGA championship program
- Assist in golf course and site preparations
- Assist Tournament Manager with Player Points, trophies, and other materials
- Provide on-site coordination of players and volunteers
- Promote MGA programs and services
- Assist in providing content to the MGA website and social media channels
- Provide support to other MGA departments as assigned
- Provide first-class customer service to all MGA players, volunteers and member clubs
Compensation & Benefits:
$15 per hour. Eligible for overtime after 40 hours per week.
Mental Demands:
- Perform highly detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks
- Interact with co-workers, players and volunteers
Physical Demands:
- This position often works in an outside golf course environment spending several hours a day in various weather conditions
- This position requires travel throughout the state of Minnesota, and ability to travel including overnight and some weekends
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Hours:
Full-time. Weekday hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with significant overtime required and early morning and late evening hours with some travel (requiring overnights) during the tournament season.
Employment:
Employment period will be April/May through September/October. Start and end dates are flexible depending on school schedule (if applicable).
