ST. PAUL, MINN. – After winning the MGA Junior Girls’ Championship last Tuesday at Fox Hollow GC, Madi Hicks, MN Youth on Course, is a champion again Monday at the 2022 MPGA Junior Public Links Girls Division at Goodrich GC. Hicks opened the 27-hole event with a four-over par 74 and followed that up with a one-over par 36 to claim a three-stroke victory over Avery O’Donnell.
Hicks got off to a shaky start double bogeying the 1st and bogeying the 2nd holes. She righted the ship with birdies on the 5th and 9th holes against two bogeys on the 6th and 8th holes to make the turn at three-over 38. She got off to a hot start on the back nine birdieing the 10th hole and would make six pars in a row before bogeying the last two holes to post a 74, trailing Lanie Veenendall by one-stroke going into the final nine. Hicks finished off the event with a steady one-over par 36 to claim the three-shot victory.
Lucas Arntsen had a good start on Monday firing two birdies, on the 3rd and 7th holes, on his way to an opening nine two-under 33 at Goodrich GC. Arntsen struggled on the way in carding five bogies over his last nine holes to shoot five-over 40 adding up to a three-over 73. He trailed the two leaders Jacob Ferrin and Austin Roloff who each shot 71.
Entering the final nine holes two-shots back, Arntsen did what he needed to do carding a bogey-free two-under par 33 with birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes to claim the 2022 MPGA Junior Public Links Boys Division. This is the first state victory for Arntsen who attends Chanhassen High School.
