BLAINE, Minn. – Extending her lead from Tuesday’s opening round, Amelia Morton carded a 2-under 69 Wednesday at Victory Links Golf Course to take a seven-stroke lead to the final round of the 79th Minnesota State Junior Girls’ Championship.

The recent Maple Grove High School graduate tallied an early bogey Wednesday, but rebounded with a pair of birdies to turn in 2-under for the championship.

Following a bogey at the par-3 11th, Morton converted three birdies over her next six holes to reach 4-under for the event before taking a bogey at the final hole.

Morton will have to hold off Elizabeth Fong, Shayla Nordlund, Kieley Hanson and Selena Wu, who sit seven strokes back at 4-over 146 entering Thursday’s final round.

The final round of the 79th Minnesota State Junior Girls’ Championship is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Thursday at Victory Links Golf Course.
