BECKER, Minn. – Winning the first Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Senior Amateur Match Play Championship of her hall of fame career last season, Claudia Pilot won her opening match Friday and Pebble Creek Golf Club to move one step closer to defending her title.
Facing Alison Hurley during Friday’s quarterfinal round, Pilot took the early lead by winning the first and never looked back, cruising to an opening-round victory, 4 and 3. Pilot will face Brenda Williams, who she defeated during last year’s opening round, when the tournament continues Saturday.
Williams bounced back from a shaky start during her opening-round match against Tracey Donesky, facing an early deficit, 2-down, through five holes. Taking the lead for good with a par at the 11th, Williams advanced to the semifinal round with a 3 and 2 victory.
Adele Peterson, the 2020 MGA Women’s Senior Amateur champion, won the opening hole during her match against Lynn Anderson and would never trail as she advanced to the semifinal round, 5 and 4.
Peterson will face six-time champion and defending MGA Women's Senior Amateur champion Leigh Klasse during Saturday’s second round.
Klasse won the first two holes of her opening-round match against Christine Dean Friday and would hold the lead for the rest of the match to win, 2-up.
The semifinal round of the 2022 MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Match Play Championship is scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m. at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
