SPICER, Minn. – For a second time during Tuesday’s final round, inclement weather suspended play at the 96th Minnesota State Junior Boys’ Championship at Little Crow Country Club.
Play was stopped initially for more than an hour and 20 minutes due to unplayable course conditions.
The second wave of players were pulled off the course a second time at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday before tournament and course officials suspended play for the evening at 7 p.m.
The final round will resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday with a shotgun start.
Farmington High School senior Kyler Schwamb currently sits at 3-under for the championship to share the on-course lead with recent New London-Spicer graduate Peyton Coahran.
Schwamb carded a 1-over 73 to begin the championship and got off to a slow start with a bogey at the first, but came surging back with two birdies and an eagle during his front nine to turn in 2-under for the championship.
Even through his first three holes of his back nine, Schwamb carded a birdie at the par-5 13th to earn a share of the lead at 3-under. Schwamb has two holes to play when the tournament resumes Tuesday.
Coahran fired a 2-under 70 Monday to earn a share of the 18-hole lead before carding three bogeys over his first four holes Tuesday. An eagle and a birdie helped Coahran turn in 1-over for the round, and he would move to 3-under following back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th holes before play was halted.
Rylin Petry and Jake Birdwell, who each claimed a share of the opening-round lead Monday, will resume the tournament tied, one shot back of the leaders, while Ryan Stendahl will resume his final round in fifth place at 1-under.
Through 15 holes of his final round, Stendahl was bogey-free with six birdies on each side.
