For more than a century, the MGA has been a steward of the amateur game in our state. What began in 1901 with seven member clubs and a goal to identify the best amateur player, today encompasses nearly 400 member clubs and 35 state championships and national qualifiers, plus many additional regional, high school/prep, collegiate and club competitions.

In addition to tournament volunteers and its Board of Directors, the MGA employs a year-round professional staff, seasonal and part-time staff including internships. While some staff are focused "inside the ropes" on tournament operations, much effort goes into for-the-good-of-the-game programs and initiatives outside of competition: the Rules of Amateur Status, Rules of Golf education, support of the World Handicap System, charitable support, player development outreach, media relations and member communications are just a few of the ways MGA serves the game for all golfers in Minnesota.
