Iowa State Rallies to Win Gopher Invitational by 2 over Minnesota

INDEPENDENCE -- Rudy Sautron, playing in his first tournament for the University of Nebraska, shot a 2-under-par 69 at Windsong Farm Golf Club on Monday and won the individual championship at the Gopher Invitational with a 54-hole total of 208 (5 under).

The Cornhusker sophomore, who transferred from Cameron University in Oklahoma, started the day in a three-way tie for second place at 139, one behind the leader, Kent State's Harris Barth. He ended it one ahead of second-place Noah Kumar of Rutgers. Kumar shot 68 on his way to 209. Barth shot 73 and tied Iowa State's Luke Gutschewski for third at 211. Gutschewski closed with a 71.

Iowa State came from 10 behind 36-hole leader Iowa in the team competition with a third-round total of 279 to win by two over host Minnesota, 860 to 862. That 279 was the best team score of the day by 10 strokes. Thanks in no small part to Sautron, Nebraska finished third, five behind Iowa State at 865.

The highest finisher for Minnesota was Eduardo Galdos, a senior from Peru who tied for seventh place at 213, after a final-round 71. Cormac Sharpe, a junior from Scotland, began the day tied with Sautron for second at 139, but he posted a 75 on Monday and slipped back into a tie for ninth at 214.
