GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - With two victories to his credit already this season, Trent Peterson fired a 1-under 71 Saturday at Theodore Wirth Golf Course to share the opening-round lead of the Twin Cities Championship with Bobby Frazzini.
Peterson hopes to add to his victories at the Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Players' Championship and Minnesota Public Golf Association Mid Public Links Championship earlier this season by claiming his first Twin Cities Championship victory since 2016.
Getting off to a slow start with a bogey at the third Saturday, the ever-scrappy Peterson tallied three birdies over his next 10 holes to reach 2-under for the tournament.
But a bogey at the par-4 15th would put the 37-year-old Peterson into a share of the clubhouse lead with Bobby Frazzini at 1-under 71 as the tournament venue shifts to Baker National Golf Course for the final round Sunday.
Frazzini stumbled early Saturday with a pair of bogeys over his first four holes, but he'd battle back by carding two birdies over his next five to reach even par for the round.
He'd take a step back with a bogey at the 11th, but rallied late by carding back-to-back birdie bids at the 15th and 16th to tie Peterson's mark of 1-under 71.
Last year's runner-up Ralph Baxley posted a 1-over 73 Saturday to earn a share of third place with former University of Minnesota golfer Harry Plowman Ollington and Topher Baron.
The final round of the 33rd Twin Cities Championship will begin at noon Sunday at Baker National Golf Course.
