Detroit Lakes Girls Claim Eighth Team Title at Class AA Tourney; Windhorst-Knudsen Medals

JORDAN, Minn. - After being held without a birdie during Tuesday's opening round at Ridges at Sand Creek, Lake City High School's Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen carded two birdies over her final two holes to claim medalist honors with a one-stroke victory at the 2024 Minnesota State High School League Class AA Championship.

Severe weather shortened Wednesday's final round to nine holes, where Windhorst-Knudsen would card two early bogeys before staging a late rally to claim the individual title.

International Falls senior Kelby Anderson carried the lead to the final hole before making a triple-bogey to post a final-round 41 to place tied for second with Holy Family's Elizabeth Fong.

Entering the final round with an 11-stroke advantage, Detroit Lakes expanded its lead by carding a final-round 159 to earn a 13-shot victory over Lake City for the eighth team title in school history.

Leading the way for Detroit Lakes was sophomore Tatum Gatheridge, who posted a final-round 37 Wednesday to finish tied for 13th at 121, while freshman Jaycie Sliper contributed by shooting 4-over 40 on the final day to place tied for 18th.

Sophie Christianson, an eighth-grader, carded a 4-over 40 during the final round to finish tied for 20th, and both Sydney Miller and Hannah Knoop tallied top-25 finishes in a winning effort.

The Lakers won six state titles in a seven-year span beginning in 2012 before jumping up to Class AAA.

Following back-to-back state team titles in 2021 and 2022, Lake City now has finished runner-up in back-to-back seasons.
