Berry Leads the Way for Minnesotans at National Senior PGA Professional Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Minnesota Golf Hall of Famer Don Berry led a contingent of local golfers at the 2025 National Senior PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club. Unfortunately for the 63-year-old Berry, a third-round 79 Saturday would put him outside the cutline for Sunday’s final round.

Berry opened with a 4-over 76 on the Dye Course Thursday before bouncing back with an even par round of 72 during Friday’s second round on the Wanamaker Course.

He would finish at 11-over 227.

Wisconsin’s Ryan Helminen, a four-time winner of the Minnesota PGA Foundation Pro-Am (formerly the Tapemark Pro-Am), carded a 13-over 229 to miss the 54-hole cut as well.

Daniel Callahan posted a 10-over 154 Friday to miss the 36-hole cut, while former University of Minnesota women’s assistant coach, John Cleary, carded 14-over 158.
Tom Vizina, the 2016 Minnesota Senior Open champion, missed the 36-hole cut after shooting 15-over 159, one better than Chris Peterson, who posted rounds of 82 and 78, respectively.

Claiming a top-5 finish at the Minnesota Senior PGA Professional Championship at Oak Marsh Golf Course in August, Mike Barge followed his opening-round 81 with an 11-over 83 during the second round Saturday, missing the cut by 13 shots.

Florida’s Justin Hicks opened with back-to-back rounds of 70 before carding a 3-under 69 during the third round Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over the field.
Hicks carded three birdies against two bogeys during his final round to hang on for a one-stroke victory, shooting 8-under 280 to earn a paycheck of more than$31,000.
