Johnsons Earn Two-Stroke Victory at MPGA Combo

Johnsons Earn Two-Stroke Victory at MPGA Combo

BECKER, Minn. - Combining for seven birdies during their first nine holes Sunday at Pebble Creek Golf Club helped the team of Brad and Joel B. Johnson card a 12-under 96, claiming a two-stroke victory at the 39th Minnesota Public Golf Association Combination Championship.

The Johnsons played their final six holes in 3-under to finish two strokes better than the twosome of Yarri Bryn and Trent Peterson.

Joel B. Johnson claims his third MPGA Combination victory, while Brad Johnson earns the first state victory of his career.

The Johnsons jumped out to a fast start in the scramble portion of the championship, carding seven birdies during their first nine holes before posting a 3-under 33 during alternate shot, highlighted by a hole-out for eagle on the ninth hole.

Carding three birdies over their first seven holes during best ball, the Johnsons carded an inconsequential bogey on the 27th hole of the championship to finish at 12-under 96.

Narrowly missing his fifth win of the 2024 season, Peterson combined with Bryn to post a 3-under 33 during the scramble format and followed it by firing a 4-under 32 during alternate shot.

The two finished the championship with three birdies over their final nine holes of best ball to come up two strokes short of the Johnsons, shooting a bogey-free 10-under 98.

Former University of Minnesota golfer Harry Plowman-Ollington and partner Drew Bosley combined to card a 7-under 101 Sunday to finish in third place, five shots back.
