Minnesotan VanArragon and 2025 Minnesota State Open Winner Leach Headed to Final Stage at PGA Tour Q-School

Minnesotan VanArragon and 2025 Minnesota State Open Winner Leach Headed to Final Stage at PGA Tour Q-School

SAVANNAH, Ga. – After making 25 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, Minnesotan Caleb VanArragon will have an opportunity to earn a promotion to the PGA Tour next season after advancing from the Second Stage of PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

VanArragon, who authored a historic 2023 season by winning both the Minnesota State Open and Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship in record fashion, tallied a final-round 68 Friday at The Landings at Deer Creek to finish tied for third at 16-under 272, earning a spot in the Final Stage beginning Thursday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla.

The former Blaine High School and Valparaiso University standout opened with a 6-under 66 during his first round Tuesday and followed it with a 5-under 67 on the second day of play.

Following his 71 during the third round, VanArragon tallied three birdies on his opening nine Friday and added one more birdie over his final nine holes to post a 68 and finish four shots inside the cutline to earn one of 22 spots from the Georgia qualifier.

Making 13 cuts this season on the Korn Ferry Tour allowed VanArragon to claim three top-10 finishes, with his best coming at the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation where he finished fourth.

VanArragon, 24, finished the year 56th on the Korn Ferry Tour points list, while earning more than $205,000 during his first season.

After earning MGA Junior Boys’ Player of the Year honors in 2018, VanArragon earned back-to-back MGA Men’s Player of the Year honors in 2022 and 2023.

Former St. Thomas Academy star Muzzy Donohue fired an 8-under 280 to miss the cut by five strokes, while former Minnetonka High School standout Ben Sigel finished tied for 62nd at 1-under 287 in Savannah.

Defending Minnesota State Open champion Tyler Leach sat at 3-over 210 in a tie for 20th to begin his final round at the Tucson, Ariz., qualifier played at The Club at Starr Pass, needing a round in red figures to have a chance to place inside the top-14, plus ties, to move on.

The 25-year-old Spring Valley, Wis., native remained at 3-over through his first nine holes, Leach rattled off seven birdies during his final nine holes to card a 7-under 63 and earn a share of medalist honors at 4-under 276.

Leach tallied a 4-under 66 on the final day at Rochester Golf and Country Club in July to earn a two-stroke victory over University of Minnesota golfer Jack Wetzel to win his first professional championship.

Former Gopher golfer Ben Warian fired a 3-under 67 on the final day in Arizona but couldn’t overcome his 73-75 start to finish in a share of 35th at 6-over 286.

Gunnar Broin, a Shorewood, Minn., native who played his collegiate golf at the University of Kansas, moved up 25 spots to put himself into contention following Thursday’s 3-under 69 at Kinderlou Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., but the final round was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The 24-year-old finished at 2-under 214, three shots outside the top-15, plus ties, needed to advance to next week’s Final Stage.

Broin, who qualified for the U.S. Open in 2024 at Pinehurst and finished tied for 70th, made nine starts on the PGA Tour Americas in 2025, making the cut in three events and had his best finish at the Bromont Open presented by Desjardins, placing 27th.

Former University of Minnesota golfer Bennett Swavely also fell victim to a weather-shortened qualifier Friday, battled back from his opening-round 77 by carding a 73 during his second round Wednesday before a 2-over 74 during the third and final round Thursday to finish tied for 62nd at the Highlands/Marshwood Course at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks.
