Burleson and Larson Fire 63 to Jump in Front at MPGA Four-Ball

STILLWATER, Minn. - A bogey-free round of 9-under 63 Saturday at Oak Glen Golf Course pushed the team of Justin Burleson and Jesse Larson to the top of the leaderboard following the opening round of the 47th Minnesota Public Golf Association Four-Ball Championship.

When the final round gets underway Sunday, Burleson and Larson will begin with a two-stroke advantage over the team of Jacob Herdine and Connor Herman, as well as the twosome of Ryan Tschann and Max Tylke.

Burleson, the 2020 Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Players' champion, and Larson, winner of the 2013 MGA Amateur Four-Ball championship, combined for four birdies over their first six holes Saturday, including a string of three straight beginning at the par-4 fourth.

Turning in 5-under for the round, the two tallied three consecutive birdies to begin their inward nine to reach 8-under for the championship.

Adding one final birdie at the par-4 17th, Burleson and Larson claimed a two-shot advantage with 18 holes left to play.

Playing in the same group as the 18-hole leaders Saturday, Herdine and Herman tallied four birdies and a bogey during their opening nine to turn in 3-under par before sinking back-to-back birdie chances to start their final nine holes.

Reaching 7-under par birdies at the 14th and 15th holes, Herdine and Herman carded their second bogey of the round at the 16th, but bounced back with a birdie at the 17th to finish two shots back at 7-under 65.

Tylke, a winner in 2019 at Southbrook Golf Course, and Tschann also went bogey-free Saturday, carding four birdies during their opening nine, while tallying three more birdies during their back side to finish in a share of second.

A round of 6-under 66 put the twosome of John Butler and Joel B. Johnson three shots off the lead in fourth place heading into Sunday's final round.

The final round of the 47th MPGA Four-Ball Championship is slated to begin at 7 a.m. Sunday at Oak Glen Golf Course.
