Johnson Finishes 46th at Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Florida to Lead Local Golfers

  PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Posting a 6-over 78 Sunday at PGA Golf Club, Minnesotan Lucas Johnson placed 46th to lead local players at the 2025 Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Entering Sunday’s final round in 34th place, Johnson dropped 12 spots on the final day after a string of bogeys mid-round.

The Moorhead, Minn., native would card three straight birdies late in the round Sunday before taking bogey on the final hole to post a 13-over 301.

A former North Dakota State University golfer, Johnson began the championship with a 5-over 77 during the opening round Thursday and bounced back with his only sub-par round Friday, a 1-under 71.

He entered the final round in 34th place after firing a 3-over 75 during Saturday’s third round.

Maple Plain, Minn., resident Will Hedberg dropped two spots on the final day to finish 70th at 28-over 316.

Hedberg’s best round of the championship came during Thursday’s opening round when he’d post a 4-over 76. He’d follow it with a 77 during Friday’s second round, and a 79 on the third day of competition.

Carding his only birdie of the final round at his 12th hole Sunday, Hedberg’s day would end with double-bogeys at three of his final five holes to shoot a final-round 84.

Matt Sandquist, of Minneapolis, missed the cut for the weekend by eight strokes at 17-over 161 following rounds of 82 and 79, respectively, while Caleb Christensen, from New Ulm, Minn., missed the cut by 10 shots, carding a 19-over 163.
