Klasse Takes Early Lead at MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship

CHASKA, Minn. – Looking to claim her sixth victory in the event, Leigh Klasse fired a 1-under 71 Monday to take a five shot lead over Lynn Anderson into the final round of 2025 MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Chaska Town Course.

Klasse opened the championship with a bogey on the second hole but would quickly get the shot back with a birdie at the par-4 third.

“I started out with a bogey on two, but birdied the next hole so that righted the ship for me. After that I was hitting the ball good,” said Klasse following the round.

Klasse followed her birdie on three with consecutive pars at four and five but would make another bogey on the par-3 sixth which she again offset with a birdie at the par-5 seventh to get back to even-par on the day.

After two pars on eight and nine, she made the turn at even-par. She would get into red figures for the championship with a birdie at the 360-yard par-4 10th.

The story of the reaminder of her round was steady golf but missed opportunities for birdies, making a par on each of her final nine holes of the day to finish at 1-under.

“I hit the ball really well and was leaving myself in places where I had good looks for birdie,” Klasse said of her ball striking. “I didn’t make a lot of putts but had good looks at them.”

Heading into the final round, Klasse will look to do more of the same on Tuesday, “This is definitely a position course, so I want to leave the ball under the hole like I did today and give myself birdie looks.”

Lynn Anderson, the 2023 champion at The Bridges in Winona, played a steady round with three bogies and a double-bogey across her first 17 holes but capped off the day with a birdie at the par-5 18th to finish with a 4-over 76 which put her five shots behind Klasse.

Linda Goodno, the 2024 MGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year, carded a 5-over 77 to sit in third place and trails Klasse by six shots.

Maggie Hillmer and Wenmei Qi shot a pair of 13-over 85’s to sit atop of the first flight leaderboard.

In the second flight, Kathy Hubert-Wyss, Kore Grate, and Sally Twelves fired a trio of 17-over 89’s to share the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Emi Sako will take a seven-shot lead into the final round in the third flight after carding a 17-over 89.

Kay Anderson ended the day with a 26-over 98 to take a four-shot lead over Kay Rasmusson in the fourth flight while Sue Olafson finished with a 41-over 113 to take a slim one-shot lead over Jean Solheim in the fifth flight.

In the Masters Division, Barbara Patrow fired a net 2-over-par 74 to take a one-shot lead over Debra Draves.

The final round of the 2025 MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship is set to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Chaska Town Course.
