MGA ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL GOLF DAY MINNESOTA

EDINA, Minn. (April 15, 2024) - In conjunction with its partners 2nd Swing Golf and KFAN Sports Radio, the Minnesota Golf Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with the Minnesota Golf Association, is pleased to announce the inaugural Golf Day Minnesota, Saturday June 1 at the Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn.

“Golf is a game shared by people from all walks of life in every corner of our state. At its core, golf is built around community, and that is what we want to celebrate on this day,” says Jon Mays, executive director and chief operating officer of the MGA.

Golf Day Minnesota officially kicks off at Island View Golf Club on June 1 with a live broadcast of KFAN's Tee-to-Green Golf Show featuring the official unofficial ambassador to Minnesota golf Dan Cole, The Common Man. Joining Common Man will be the Golf Channel's Matt Ginella, community leader, author and entrepreneur Houston White, and many more local dignitaries and personalities.

Following Tee-to-Green, an 18-hole golf fund-raiser will take place at Island View. Proceeds will benefit the Minnesota Golf Foundation and Youth on Course Minnesota (YOCMN), a program for kids ages 6-18 who can play a round of golf for $5 or less at more than 110 participating golf courses around the state.

As part of Golf Day Minnesota, for every score posted June 1 by MGA members anywhere in the state, a round of golf valued at $5 will be subsidized for YOCMN members. Organizers expect to subsidize rounds of golf for up to 12,000 youth. Golf courses around the state will be conducting local events to help raise awareness of Golf Day Minnesota and encourage their golfers to “go play, go post, and support Youth on Course.” A list of participating courses can be found at mngolf.org/GolfDayMN.

Near the shores of Lake Waconia, Island View is a parkland-style par-72 layout designed by Willie Kidd, George Oftelie, Joel Goldstrand, Garrett Gill and Kevin Norby. The facility has hosted numerous MGA men's and women's amateur championships. In 2023 it was named the MGA Member Club of the Year and featured prominently in the Directory issue of the Minnesota Golfer magazine, the official publication of the MGA.
