SEA ISLAND, Ga. – Following the best individual performance during his rookie season on the PGA Tour last week, Minnesotan Frankie Capan missed the cut Friday in the final event of the 2025 season at the RSM Classic at The Plantation Course.
Placing third last week in Bermuda, Capan jumped 18 spots in the standings to 124th, needing another strong finish to keep his Tour card for 2026 by finishing in the top-100.
Capan tallied a pair of top-3 finishes on the season, but his late-season push would only get him to 127th in the FedEx Cup standings, leaving the 26-year-old’s playing status for the 2026 season in question.
During his rookie campaign on the PGA Tour in 2025, Capan started 27 events and made 10 cuts to amass more than $1.1 million.
In just his second start this season, Capan placed 12th at the American Express in Palm Springs, Calif., in January but would struggle by missing cuts in seven of his next nine starts.
Capan, a native of North Oaks, Minn., partnered with inaugural CRMC Championship winner Jake Knapp to finish third at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April for the first top-5 of his career.
After missing the cut at the first fall event of the season, Capan carded a 17-under 271 at the Sanderson Farms Championship early last month for his second top-10 finish of the season.
Players finishing 101st to 125th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, will earn conditional status for next season and can earn or improve their status for 2026 through Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
The Final Stage is scheduled for Dec. 11-14 at Dye’s Valley Course in Ponte Vedra, Fla., where the top five players earning their Tour cards for 2026. The next 40 finishers will earn full status on the Korn Ferry Tour for next season, while the remaining participants will earn conditional Korn Ferry status.
Already securing his status on Tour for next season, Tom Hoge, the Fargo, N.D. native, who won back-to-back Minnesota Golf Association Amateur titles in 2009 and 2010 before turning professional, also missed the cut Friday in Georgia.
The former Texas Christian University golfer made 29 appearances on the season, claiming four top-10 finishes to earn more than $4.2 million. His best finish in 2025 came at The Players Championship in March where he placed tied for third.
Owner of six international titles during his career, 27-year-old Sami Valimaki earned a one-stroke victory over Max McGreevy Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory in his 54th start.
A native of Nokia, Finland, Valimaki tallied three birdies over his final 11 holes Sunday on his way to a win and a two-year exemption on Tour.
“It has been long road, of course,” said Valimaki, who becomes Finland’s first PGA Tour winner. “I feel like kind of how the last year taught me, I feel like it's a really tough year even when I kind of played decent golf, and then to keep pushing and find some good grooves in the last few tournaments, so it feels amazing.
“It has been a great week. I can't much say more than that.”
The 2026 PGA Tour season begins Jan. 15-18 at The Sony Open in Hawaii.
