Larson and Leonhart Each Survive Playoff to Win Chaska Invitational

CHASKA, Minn. – Deadlocked after 36 holes of play Monday at Hazeltine National Golf Club, Chase Larson emerged victorious over Joe Honsa to claim the 2025 Chaska Invitational.

Larson carded a 3-under 69 during the morning session at Chaska Town Course to enter the second round of play Monday afternoon at Hazeltine one shot off the lead.

Despite a bogey to open his second round, Larson tallied three birdies over a four-hole stretch beginning at the par-3 fourth, turning in 5-under for the championship.

Stumbling early during his inward nine with bogeys at the 10th and 13th holes, Larson staged a late rally with a birdie at the final hole to force a playoff with Honsa after finishing at 4-under 140.

Honsa, who will begin his freshman season at the University of Minnesota this fall, shared the opening-round lead after firing a 4-under 68 at Chaska Town Course.

During an up-and-down front nine, Honsa carded three birdies against three bogeys to remain at 4-under for the championship.

He took advantage of the par-5 11th, carding his fourth birdie of the round, but would take a step back with a bogey at the 14th, eventually earning a share of the clubhouse lead with Larson at 140 before falling in a playoff.

Recent Minnesota State Junior Boys’ champion and future Gopher Torger Ohe came up one stroke short of potentially his second win of the season after carding a 3-under 69 before shooting an even par 72 to finish in third place at 3-under 141.

Leonhart Outlasts Wu in Playoff to Win Girls’ Division

Following her opening-round 78 with an even par 72 at Hazeltine Monday, Bella Leonhart edged Selena Wu in a playoff to win the 2025 Chaska Invitational.

Leonhart faced a seven-stroke deficit after her opening round at Chaska Town Course early Monday before shifting venues for the afternoon session.

Starting the final round at Hazeltine on the 18th hole Monday, Leonhart quickly made up ground with a birdie, but would card bogeys at both the second and third holes.

Bouncing back with a birdie at the fourth, Leonhard carded a double-bogey at the par-4 fifth to slip to 2-over for the round.

Playing her final 12 holes in 2-under par, Leonhart finished in a share of the clubhouse lead with Wu after carding an even par 72 before prevailing in a playoff to earn the victory.

Wu, who finished fourth at last month’s Minnesota State Junior Girls’ Championship at Little Crow Golf Resort, carded the tournament’s only round below par early Monday at Chaska Town Course, shooting 1-under 71 to take a four-stroke advantage to the final 18 holes of play.

She would card three bogeys over her first seven holes to slip to 3-over for the championship before closing out the final round with four bogeys over her final six holes to post a 7-over 79 to earn a share of the lead with Leonhart at 6-over 150.

After posting a 4-over 76 to begin the championship Monday, Lauren Chambs played her final 18 holes in 10-over to finish in third place at 14-over 158.
